TEEN COUNSELING

Adolescence is inherently a challenging phase of life, but the additional stress of academic, athletic, and social demands significantly contributes to the struggles kids face. Parents want the best for their teen, but sometimes it can be hard to know what to do. In trying to connect with their emotions, help with outbursts or simply have a nice conversation with them, parents are often met with resistance.

Our therapists are skilled at helping teenagers strengthen their confidence, communication skills, self-worth, family cohesiveness, and academic achievement. Alamo Counseling offers a safe space for teens to rediscover family balance and to develop the skills needed to grow into thriving, healthy adults. We draw from a variety of modalities to help your teen with the challenges they face. Dialectic Behavioral Therapy (DBT) focuses on finding a balance between acceptance and change, building skills in mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) helps to make connections between painful experiences and subsequent thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. Symptoms that teen counseling addresses include:

  • Feelings of anxiety or dread

  • Sudden or increasing changes in behavior

  • Anger outbursts

  • Isolation or social withdrawal

  • Decrease in academic performance

  • Health or sleep changes

  • Experiencing bullying or bullying others
